Knjige koje su inspirirale glazbenike

Kako stojimo s pjesmama koje su inspirirane knjigama?

Neke knjige osvojile su, oduševile i inspirirale glazbenike i evo, pred vama je nekoliko primjera pjesama koje su nastale po – knjigama.

David Bowie: pjesma "1984" objavljena 1974. na albumu "Diamond Dogs". Inspiracija je, jasno, knjiga Georgea Orwella "1984". Stihovi: They’ll split your pretty cranium and fill it full of air/And tell that you’re eighty, but brother, you won’t care/Beware the savage jaw of 1984. I druge pjesme s tog albuma imaju veze s Orwellovom "1984" – Big Brother i We Are The Dead (što su posljednje riječi junaka Winstona Smitha prije nego ga policija ulovi). Bowie je želio napraviti i musical "1984" ali se tome usprotivila Orwellova udovica

Led Zeppelin: "Ramble On" s albuma iz 1969. "Led Zeppelin II" Knjiga: Gospodar prstenova  Stihovi: 't was in the darkest depths of Mordor/I met a girl so fair/But Gollum, and the evil one crept up/And slipped away with her.

Gary Numan: "Are Friends Electric?" s albuma "Replicas", 1979. Knjiga (priča):"Sanjaju li androidi električne ovce?" Philipa K. Dicka. Ako i niste fan sci-fi tj znan-fan pisanja ovu pripovijest, kažu, svatko mora pročitati. Ona je i predložak za scenarij filma "Blade Runner". Stihovi: You know I hate to ask/But are ‘friends’ electric?/Only mine’s broke down/And now I’ve no one to love.

Radiohead i pjesma "Dollars and Cents" s albuma "Amnesiac", 2001. Knjiga: "No Logo", Naomi Klein Stihovi: We are the dollars and cents/And the pounds and pence/And the mark and the yen/And yeah were gonna crack your little souls.

Joy Division – "Atrocity Exhibition" s albuma "Closer" iz 1980. Knjiga: Zbirka priča J. G. Ballarda "Condensed novels". Ballard je napisao "Carstvo sunca". Stihovi: Asylums with doors open wide/Where people had paid to see inside/For entertainment they watch his body twist/Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds – pjesma "Red Right Hand" s albuma "Let Love In" iz 1994. Knjiga: za inspiraciju je zaslužna zapravo pjesma čiji je naslov uzet iz Miltonovog "Izgubljenog raja" Stihovi: On a gathering storm comes/a tall handsome man/in a dusty black coat with a red right hand

Police: "Don't Stand So Close To Me" s albuma "Zenyatta Mondatta" iz 1980. Knjiga: "Lolita"  Vladimira Nabokova Stihovi: Young teacher the subject of schoolgirl fantasy… This girl is half his age… He starts to shake and cough/Just like the old man in that book by Nabokov.

He Strokes – pjesma "Soma", s albuma "Is This It?" iz 2001. Knjiga: "Vrli novi svijet" Aldousa Huxleya Stihovi: Soma is what they would take when/Hard times opened their eyes. Soma je ime halucinogena koji se konzumira u knjizi – drogu spominju i bendovi"Smashing Pumpkins" i "deadmau5" u pjesmama koje se, obje, zovu Soma. "Noah and The Whale", pjesma "Jocasta" s albuma "Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down" iz 2008.

Knjiga: Sofoklov "Kralj Edip". Stihovi: Oh but now the love you found/Is raising you from muddy ground/And oh the death will let you down/'Cause your curse will still go on the same.

Rick Wakeman "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" iz 1974. Knjiga: Jules Verne i "Put u središte zemlje" Stihovi: Five days out on an infinite sea, they prayed for calm on an ocean free/But the surface of the water was indicating some disturbance…

Grupa: "Wild Beasts", pjesma "Two Dancers" s istoimenog albuma iz 2009. Knjiga: kontroverzna knjiga Henryja Millera iz davne 1949. "Sexus". Stih: His hairy hands, his falling fists, his dancing cock down by his knees. Ovaj super načitan kvartet često je spajao riječi koje su nabijene seksom i književnošću. Na albumu iz 2011., "Smoother", ugurali su "Frankensteina" Mary Shelley; Shakespeareovu Ofeliju, Hemingwayevu "Smrt poslijepodne" i film "Žene na rubu živčanog sloma" Almodóvara.  

Grupa: Friendly Fires objavila je 2012. pjesmu "Pala" Knjiga: Otok, Aldous Huxley Stih: In Pala, in Pala… And we couldn’t care/If we die out here, die out here.

Red Hot Chili Peppers –"Yertle The Turtle" pjesma s albuma iz 1985. – "Freaky Styley" Knjiga: Dr. Seuss  "Yertle The Turtle" Stih: I’m Yertle The Turtle/The things I now rule/I’m king of a cow/I’m king of a mule. Alt-J- Breezeblocks, album iz 2011. "An Awesome Wave" Knjiga, tj slikovnica; Mauricea Sendaka: Where The Wild Things Are (Tamo gdje su divlji stvori) Stih: Do you know where the wild things go? They go along to take your honey, la la la

Metallica – To Whom The Bell Tolls (album iz 1984. Ride The Lightning) Knjiga: "Kome zvono zvoni" Ernesta Hemingwaya. Stih: Men of five, still alive through the raging glow/Gone insane from this pain that they surely know.” Ista knjiga inspirirala je i Bee Gees – ista knjiga i isto ime pjesme. "No man is an Iland, intire of it self; every man is a peace of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any means death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee." - "Nijedan čovjek nije otok, sasvim sam za sebe; svaki je čovjek dio kontinenta, dio Zemlje; ako More odnese grudu zemlje - Europe je manje, kako da je odnijelo kakav rt, posjed tvog prijatelja  ili tvoj vlastiti. Ramones - Pet Sematary iz 1989., s albuma "Brain Drain" Knjiga: Groblje kućnih ljubimaca, Stephen King Stih: Molars and fangs, the clicking of bones/Spirits moaning among the tombstones. Ramonesi su napisali pjesmu za adaptaciju Kingovog horrora; a i Rammstein se pridružio  

Elton John – "Rocket Man" iz 1972. S albuma "Honky Chateau" Knjiga: priča Raya Bradburyja – "The Rocket Man" Stih: She packed my bags last night pre-flight. I u toj rečenici je cijeli zaplet priče – astronaut ostavlja ženu i sina jer ide na put. U svemir. Rasplet? Pročitajte priču..

Nirvana – "Scentless Apprentice" iz 1993.s albuma "In Utero" Knjiga: "Parfem" Patricka Süskinda. Ne treba mnogo objašnjavati – suluda knjiga. Stih: "His smell smelled like no other."

The Cure – singl "Killing An Arab" Knjiga: Albert Camus, "Stranac" Stih: I’m alive/I’m dead/I’m the stranger/Killing an Arab. S tom su pjesmom Cureovci imali problema - debut single je naime završio na sudu. Dežurni i nenačitani dušobrižnici shvatili su pjesmu kao poziv da se ubijaju Arapi –nisu shvatili Camusovu egzistencijalnu lamentaciju. Na kraju su The Cure promijenili ime pjesme i riječi – od 2005. je izvode kao "Killing An Ahab" što je referenca na Melvilleov "Moby Dick". A kako su upravo najavili, Cureovci se vraćaju na glazbenu scenu velikom turnejom. Jupi!

The Rolling Stones :"Sympathy For The Devil" iz 1968. s albuma "Beggars Banquet" Knjiga: Mihail Bulgakov "Majstor i Margarita" Mick Jagger je izjavio kako je za pjesma nastala po romanu Bulgakova. Stih: I stuck around St. Petersburg, when I saw it was a time for a change.  

Klaxons –"Gravity's Rainbow" pjesma iz 2007., s albuma "Myths of the Near Future" Knjiga: "Gravity's Rainbow" Thomasa  Pynchona Stih: Come with me, come with me/We'll travel to infinity...
